Does anyone else get bilateral rib pain. The pain is felt in inspiration.

I had it some months ago and it settled but I've noticed it starting up again.
I would appreciate any input anyone has as to cause - is it related to RA?

Also I am getting what might possibly be trocanteric bursitis - anyone else had the experience.

Yep - me too I get pain centrally and at the side along the line of the rib attachment points, front and back, mostly on my right side. But it's sporadic. I gather it's all part of the disease. I am seeing my Rheumy nurse on Thursday and will mention it to see what she says.

I have pain at the top of my left pelvis, above the trocanteric area which I think might be bursitis. It's a burning sensation

Thanks Paul.

I don't go back to the clinic until January. When I got it last time no-one seemed to give me any answers.
Your' s at least confirms my suspicion . I look forward to hearing what your nurse has to say.

Good luck on Thursday.

Hi Gogs,

I get dreadful rib pain occasionally, which is normally costochondritis - the pain is absolutely crippling. It`s all part and parcel of the good old RA, but it even hurts to breathe etc., so I do sympathise.

I have trochanteric bursitis - in my left thigh, and I`ve had it since early June. I didn`t know that was what it was at first, so exacerbated the problem on holiday by trying to walk along the beach. I had an X-ray and scan at the beginning of August, which is when I got the diagnosis, and a steroid injection the same day, which relieved things for a bit. Two weeks later I had another injection, as my rheumy consultant said I needed a larger amount of steroid. Since then it has still been nagging on - I can`t lie on my left side at all, and while the pain is not as bad on walking a short distance, it seems to hit me later - I liken it to a screwdriver being turned into the bad place! I can have another injection any time now, but haven`t bothered to ring up yet. I take ordinary-strength painkillers during the day, and Tramadol at night, in an effort to get some sleep. Apparently it can take months to settle down, even up to a year or 18 months.

Take care,

Kathleen xx

Isn't it strange how we all differ in our responses to our condition. In my case if I sleep on my right (none bursitis) side it exacerbates the pain. No matter how I juggle pillows my thigh is uncomfortable. But if I lie on the side that has the pain, it helps. Go figure!

I didn't get around to asking about this, mainly because I am going to end up seeing the consultant soon and I will ask him.

Ah I can certainly empathise the bursitis pain also tha rib pain.

I had in March a steroid injection into the hip which did help considerable , however the past few weeks I m now having problems lying on my left side again, I can also liken it to the screwdriver ouch. It is horrid.

I do hope it gets easier

Thanks Rose.

Just when you think all is OK up pops another area of painSad

I had a steroid injection a month ago so had been hoping to get Christmas and New Year out of it, the latest
drugs I've been put on, I'm advised wont really be effective for about 12 weeks.
